Subject: Yes, and amen

For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us  (
2 Corinthians 1:20 (NKJV)
Definitions: yes

There are many things we put our trust in today.  The economy, a healthy bank account, a steady job, stocks and bonds, our government, family, friends, etc., all of these are things we look to for our "security."  As long as they are doing well, we feel safe, but any and all of those things can change in an instant.  One single incident somewhere in the world can cause the economy to drop like a rock.  A change in management or ownership of your employer, a change in your health, or any number of things can cause your "steady" job to disappear.  Family and friends move away, or pass away in death, leaving us alone.  All of the people and things we consider our "safety net" are like rain clouds, which appear large and substantial, but can be blown away by a little breeze.  The only "guarantee" you could be sure of would have to be "signed" by God.  Any other "guarantee" isn't worth a hill of beans!  Now you may think, "I can't get a "guarantee" from God, as I can't see Him and don't (normally) hear His voice."  That statement would be wrong, though, for you already have a guarantee from Him, and our verse above informs us of that.  Every promise of God, no matter how fantastic or hard to believe, has been guaranteed, and that guarantee is signed in the blood of Jesus.

All of us, at some time or another, have "gone back" on something we said we would do.  We may have promised something we weren't capable of, changed our mind, forgot to do it, or, as is the case with many people, just lied.  We can never be positive we will receive the fulfillment of the promises made by others.  This is so common, we even expect it, as is the case with what we call "campaign promises."   Politicians promise, "if elected, I will do what I'm telling you.  I will stop all wars, I will fix the economy, etc. Trust me!"  Some in our current presidential election campaign have already been shown as liars, yet millions continue to stand by them, "trusting" those candidates will do what they have promised, if elected, as if their character will miraculously change, once they are in office.  A number of our former presidents and other elected officials have blatantly lied about what they did or did not do, yet, many still say those liars were "great" presidents, senators, congressmen, mayors, etc.  In other words, we now consider it acceptable to lie.  We have become like Jesus said of Satan,  when HE said Satan "does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it." (John 8:44 (NKJV)  We even act as if honesty is something strange.  If we learn someone, for instance, found a large amount of money and went out of their way to return it to its rightful owners; we call them crazy or foolish.  People are no longer expected to be "trust-worthy."   Honesty is no longer considered a desirable virtue, by many.  Our God, though, does not change His attributes according to what mankind considers acceptable.

The only One you can absolutely trust is God, not man, and not Satan.  Many of us have a difficult time believing HE will do what HE has said, but our verse from 2 Corinthians stresses what all of God's Word tells us, God can not lie!  What HE has promised, HE will do.  HE always speaks the truth! HE has given us His personal guarantee, in the form of His Son!  He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?  (Romans 8:32 (NKJV)  Think again on the seemingly impossible promises God has given you, then realize that impossibility has been removed:  But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. (Matt 19:26 (KJV)  Then, remember, not only is the fulfillment of that (those) promise(s) possible, but, in Jesus, they are yes, and amen!
